Release Discriptions:

THE ABANDONED HEARTS CLUB - The Initial Confessions Of... limited 7"
Their four-song debut seeing vinyl for the first time. Completely remixed and remastered with stunning new artwork by Jeremy Wabiszczewicz (Daughters/Monsters In Disguise), and astonishing three-color screen printed and hand-die-cut covers. Limited to only 500 copies. Clear vinyl, too. This Canadian powerhouse plays intelligent metalcore (but not that mosh chugga style) with ex-members of Spread The Disease. These guys also just signed to Abacus/Century Media Records. (Init Records #17)

BACK WHEN - Swords Against The Father 7"
Omaha's best-kept secret (but not for long), Back When offer up four songs of brutal, energetic hardcore that is equal parts fast, technical, epic, and heavy. This reminds me a lot of the band Examination Of The... before they headed down the Neurosis-style route. The members of back when have also spent time in Caught In The Fall, Eyes Of Verotika, Robots Don't Cry, Examination Of The..., Plosion, and Statistics. (Init Records #24)

IN THE FACE OF WAR - Live Forever Or Die Trying CD
The third CD release from this Indiana hardcore band, showing lots of evolution from their previous attempts. With similiarities to bands like Good Clean Fun, Stretch Arm Strong, and Carry On, this band has plenty of catchy youth crew sing alongs blended with both screamed and shouted vocals (their vocalist is also an ex-member of Phoenix Bodies). This is also insanely positive - songs about staying young, friends, summer, playing hardcore, and being excellent to others and enjoying life. 11 songs, including a Foo Fighters cover, in under 30 minutes. (Init Records #23 CD)

SINKING STEPS RISING EYES - The 2002 E.P. 7"
A limited edition 7" pressing of the band's first recorded material from 2002. Previously only released as a CD-R sold only at shows, the music on this 7" has little in common with the present-day band, except members. This is fast, brutal, and heavy screamy hardcore with two vocalists and two bassists and the five songs documented here represent a young band highly influenced by their fellow Sioux Falls bands at the time: Examination Of The..., The Spirit Of Versailles, and Caligari fans will not be disappointed. Limited edition of 350 copies with beautiful hand-printed and assembled packaging. (Init #21)

THE ABANDONED HEARTS CLUB - The Initial Confessions Of CD
Their out of print self-released four-song debut finally reissued. Completely remixed and remastered with stunning new artwork by Jeremy Wabiszczewicz (Daughters/Monsters In Disguise). This Canadian powerhouse plays intelligent metalcore (but not that mosh chugga style) with ex-members of Spread The Disease. Limited 7" version to be released soon. (Init Records #17)

DISPENSING OF FALSE HALOS - Growing Up, Giving In CD
The final Dispensing Of False Halos release, this post-humous collection has the vinyl-only songs from two previous (and soon to be out of print) releases: the 4-song self-titled 7" and their two songs from the split 7" with Calling Gina Clark. Also included for completist purposes are two unreleased tracks: a demo version of one of the CGC split songs and a cover of a fellow Des Moines band, Eric And The Floaters. Dispensing Of False Halos has ex-members of staple midwest hardcore bands like Eclipse Of Eden and In Loving Memory. (Init Records #20)

PHOENIX BODIES/TYRANNY OF SHAW - split 7"
This may be a good candidate for the most chaotic and brutal hardcore record of the year. Each band does two new songs, Phoenix Bodies, featuring members of Mara'akate, serve up one new song and a Black Flag cover that is full of energy and fun. Tyranny Of Shaw serve up two short and heavy spazztic metal songs that will leave your head thumping and wanting more. (Init Records #19)

SINKING STEPS... RISING EYES - Majestic Blue CD
Sinking Steps, Rising Eyes present their long awaited debut full length... more than a collection of songs, it's more inline with a musical composition; with only traces of their roots in hardcore. The album feels organic and life like, songs seem to have personality. Vocals are few but each song seems to speak volumes. The album is as brutal as it is serene, I want to make some comparisons but I really don't think I can. The songs are crafted with guitar, bass, piano/keys, flute, melodic, vocals and drums. This record will appeal to anyone who loves music. Recorded and mixed 100% analog. Description by Eli DeGroff of Sinking Steps... Rising Eyes. (Init Records #18)
